Bedford Flood Gate Control
Bedford Borough Council have been given responsibility for the management and control of 2 flood gates on the Great Ouse in the center of Bedford. OTT Hydrometry were successful in the tender process and were commissioned to install a monitoring solution that can trigger the opening and closing of the existing flood gates at predetermined river levels. In addition to the flood gate control the system is also designed to transmit water level and gate status information to an online platform – Hydromet Cloud.

The River Great Ouse, is a river in the United Kingdom, the longest of several British rivers called "Ouse". From Syresham in central England, the Great Ouse flows into East Anglia before entering the Wash, a bay of the North Sea. With a course of 143 miles (230 km), mostly flowing north and east.
Bedford Borough Council have been given responsibility for the management and control of 2 flood gates on the Great Ouse in the centrer of Bedford. In addition to the flood gate control the system is also designed to transmit water level and gate status information to an online platform – Hydromet Cloud. The continued and effective control of the gates is critical in the local flood defence. The client required a robust and reliable solution to ensure that significant infrastructure and property within the town centre remained protected.
- An OTT Pressure Level Sensor (PLS) was suspended within the observation well to provide accurate and reliable water level readings.
- In conjunction with the PLS a GRP telemetry cabinet was installed which contains the NetDL 1000 data logger and connections to the actuator motors.
- It was also installed the online viewing platform Hydromet Cloud for having full visibility of the water levels and provide an email alert function notifying the client of critical actions within the system, e.g gates opening and closing.
