Precipitation measurement in high mountains - Aosta Valley
Precipitation monitoring in remote areas without infrastructure was thought to be impossible in Aosta Valley, Italy. All the more challenging was the task to install a measuring site on the Peak CIMO Blanche with its height of 3000 meters (just shy of 10,000 feet), located near the famous Matterhorn.
The measuring site needed to withstand the extreme weather conditions that comes with high altitudes: snow thunderstorms and wind speeds of up to 200 km/h or 125 mph which transports masses of snow, forming heights of 3 - 4 meters. The OTT Pluvio² was chosen to measure precipitation data.
OTT Pluvio² - Weighing Rain Gauge
All-weather, high accuracy rain gauge for continuous data collection
The OTT Pluvio² is an all-weather precipitation gauge that uses superior weight-based technology to measure the amount and intensity of rain, snow, and hail.
- Cumulative precipitation, precipitation intensity, bucket content in real time and non real time
- Weighing principle
- All-weather precipitation gauge without moving parts according to WMO guide line No. 8
- SDI-12 / RS-485, pulse
