Battery Safety Precautions
Although statistically unlikely, sealed battery powered equipment can be pressurized to dangerous levels when batteries are not treated in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.
In an abundance of caution, we are highlighting this hazard that is inherent with sealed battery powered devices. It is imperative that users make sure that batteries are installed only in proper orientation and that only new batteries from the same manufacturer and lot are used. These steps are necessary to minimize the potential for the release of gases that are potentially explosive and/or that may pressurize Hydrolab equipment to dangerous levels. As of October 25, 2010 all new Hydrolab equipment that is powered with multiple internal batteries will be labeled with the following message: WARNING: Explosion Hazard! Improper battery installation can cause release of explosive gases - Insert batteries in proper orientation - Use only new batteries from the same manufacturer and lot
In addition, Hydrolab instruments that are serviced by authorized service centers will be returned with warning stickers. Labels are available free-of-charge upon request to users who wish to proactively label their instruments.
